Discover Chester, the Ideal Destination for Active Retiree

The wants and needs of retirees and how they plan for retirement has changed. Our Baby Boomerangs research uncovered bags of stats to suggest that retirees want to stay active and live among the buzz of a town or city centre, rather than slow down. And what better place to retire than in Chester!

Hot on the heels of being named one of the Best Places to Live in the UK by The Sunday Times, Christleton in Chester offers the perfect balance of being close to a thriving city centre, whilst also being amongst amazing green spaces in a picturesque village. It’s no wonder why Retirement Villages chose Chester to build our first integrated retirement community in the North West.

So, how does retirement in Chester fit the bill when it comes to what people are looking for in retirement?

Being better connected

Moving back into the city means you have more opportunities on your doorstep, whether that’s trying new food, discovering a new show at the theatre, or just having more of what you love on your doorstep. Chester is famed for its culture with five amazing theatres, and it hosts one of the oldest Roman auditoriums still standing! The city also has a thriving food and drink scene and great connections to cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, and London, should you fancy a change of scenery every now and then.

Being more social

One of our core ambitions is to build retirement communities that are knitted into the local area, allowing people to feel closer to where they live and the people they live amongst. Being close to a buzzing centre provides the opportunity to socialise more and meet new friends in later life; and at The Wyldewoods, you’ll never be too far away from a busy environment with plenty of things to do and people to connect with. The Deva Bridge Club, Hoole Tennis Club, and Vicars Cross Golf Club are just a handful of nearby clubs that always welcome new members and are a great way to meet new people.

Staying healthy & active

Getting outside and staying fit and healthy is not only good for your body and mind, but it’s also a lot of fun. Chester has a range of gyms, sports clubs and exercise classes for every age and ability. We know that retirees place great value on keeping fit and active – we asked our Baby Boomerangs if where they wanted to live was based on their access to leisure or gym facilities and more than half of them said yes! Christleton has its own sports centre and plenty of leisure clubs and classes to get involved in, whether that’s Pilates, yoga, or bowls – finding an activity that’s right for you is just around the corner.
