Thrive Living by Retirement Villages Group (RVG), owned by AXA IM Real Assets, has secured its second significant planning approval this year, with Epping Forest Council’s recent decision at the planning committee meeting on Wednesday 13th November. The new development in Chigwell, Essex, close to Grange Hill Underground station, will bring a sustainable, purpose-built community for over 65s to the local area, following months of engagement with the planning authority, local stakeholders, and the community.
The new Chigwell village will be part of the ‘Thrive Living’ collection, designed for older people to feel part of a wider urban community, with access to all the facilities and energy of town centres to enable them to live active and sociable later lives, while also having any support they may need close at hand. Residents will be able to enjoy amenities such as a resident lounge and a library, with selected facilities such as the restaurant open to the wider community, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
Aiming to set a new benchmark in sustainability, the development will be fully net zero carbon, powered by renewable energy, and include a 20% increase in local biodiversity. The Thrive Living community model prioritises sustainability, social connections, and enhanced well-being, reinforcing its commitment to meet the evolving needs of an ageing population and the community as a whole.
The first Thrive Living community, The Wyldewoods in Chester, will welcome its first residents this January. Other communities are also under construction, including Botanical Place in West Byfleet, set to open in summer 2025, followed by Tunbridge Wells and West Malling in Kent, in 2026.
Duncan Matthews, Development Director at Retirement Villages Group, said:
“I would like to thank everyone involved in this approval. The outcome is testament to months of constructive consultation with Epping Forest officers, local stakeholders, and the dedication of our consultant team. We’re thrilled to bring a vibrant, sustainable village to Chigwell, offering older people a community where they can continue to live happy, healthy lives. Our plans also include new jobs and amenities that will benefit and be accessible to the entire community.
