Meet some of the early risers

We asked some of the residents across our communities what gets them out of bed in the morning. The answers might surprise you! Our residents lead busy and active lifestyles, far from the sleepy, quiet lifestyle you might expect in a retirement community. With communities that are a hive of activity with regular coffee mornings and clubs to be part of you can be as busy as you like -or not, whatever takes your fancy!

Jeanette, a proud resident of Castle Village, starts her day with a refreshing stroll around the walking meadow, soaking up the breath-taking views of Berkhamsted. With the option of exploring Ashridge Forest's walking routes, Jeanette enjoys the chance of spotting deer during the right season. Despite the variety of activities available, including Tai Chi and other classes in the community, one of Jeanette's favourite pastimes is savouring morning coffee with friends on the terrace outside the mansion house.

I go to the gym sometimes I do aqua aerobics in the nearby town. But if I don’t have anything planned, I can make the morning my own, with a leisurely breakfast or maybe read a book.

The coffee mornings are like little pockets of joy

For Susan, being a planner, it all comes down to what's pencilled into her diary. A quick glance first thing tells her if it's a coffee, a walk, or maybe a bit of shopping. Susan's also a volunteer in our community, helping with the weekly coffee mornings.

The coffee mornings are like little pockets of joy. Sitting down with everyone and chatting about whatever's on your mind. For some, it's the best part of the week—a chance to catch up with friends. And for new residents, it's the perfect opportunity to meet people and get to know your neighbours a bit better. For whatever reason you decide to go, one thing's for sure—it's always a lively morning filled with laughter and good company.

Susan comments, “It depends, if I’m on coffee morning duty there’s lots of setting up to get everything ready. If not, I might go for a walk, meet friends, or enjoy a spot of shopping.”

The ladies laugh as Margaret, who also resides at Castle Village, share a collective sentiment—there's never a dull moment in their community.

With a wide range of activities to choose from, including coffee mornings that offer lively conversations and new connections, residents can live life on their terms. Margaret humorously adds, “I’m pleased I can get out of bed in the morning! With some many things to partake in, there isn’t a dull moment in this community.”

In our communities, independence is key, and residents enjoy the freedom to tailor their days as they see fit. With clubhouse social areas providing the perfect backdrop for gatherings, even those who prefer a quieter day can find joy in the company of friends.

One thing is clear—our residents are eager to embrace each day of retirement with enthusiasm.
