Why we swapped our South Devon beach home for a Taunton retirement village
Copy linkMichael and Pauline Pettet set themselves a target – to move to a new home by the age of 75.
“We were living in South Devon, 400 yards from the beach but several miles from the doctor, shops, hospital and railway station,” said Mike. “We came to the conclusion we should move to a more suitable location for our later years.”
The couple began looking at their options and knew they’d found the perfect solution when they visited Blagdon Village in Taunton, Somerset.
‘Everything we were ever likely to need was either here at the village or within a very short distance,” said Mike. “But it’s the residents who bring the village to life. There are so many groups to join, activities to take part in and events to go along to.”
“There’s no compulsion to join in but the majority of us do. That creates a very happy community spirit with everyone looking out for each other and no one ever needing to feel lonely.”
The Pettets have now been enjoying life at Blagdon village for several years.
“We’re always quick to recommend life in a retirement village,” said Pauline. “In fact the only bit of advice we tend to give to people who ask is not to leave it too late. There’s so much to enjoy it would be a shame to miss out.”
