To say it’s been a tough 18 months is an understatement but we’re starting to come out of the other side and we, and our residents, wanted to give a nod to the occasion by putting on celebrations across the communities. As most of our villages would usually celebrate with a summer party, and having missed 2020’s opportunity the Village Managers and teams were all keen to give our residents and their loved ones the chance to come together and really begin to make up for lost time.
The majority of our villages from up in Warwickshire in the Midlands, down through Essex & Surrey in the Southeast to West Sussex in the South, celebrated the lifting of COVID restrictions, with villages and communities bursting back into life with the sounds of music and laughter. There’s been a whole host of events, and it’s wonderful to see our residents, their families and the teams at our communities be able to come together once more to drink, eat, dance and laugh – and enjoy the fleeting sunshine we’ve been given this year!
We managed to snap some great shots from amongst the fun so enjoy them at your leisure below.
Even the predictably unpredictable British weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of our villages. The residents and village team of Mayford Grange (nr Woking, Surrey) were undeterred by the sudden arrival of thunderstorms on the day of their party and simply moved their intended Outdoor Street Party indoors, where they enjoyed entertainment from a 1940s tribute trio band, an impressive buffet spread and the fantastic company of their friends and families.
Lime Tree Village
At Lime Tree Village in Warwickshire, 230 party guests enjoyed a fantastic summer party last month soaked up the sunshine. This large, yet close-knit village community wanted to celebrate coming back together in style, and that they did! The residents turned up in their droves to tuck into the hog roast, enjoy the live jazz music and crack open a bottle or two of fizz in their spectacular gardens. There were games and activities throughout the day – a truly special way to come back together.
Charters Village and Thamesfield
The impressive galleried main hall in Charters Towers was the venue of the residents’ ‘Freedom Party’ at Charters Village on the outskirts of East Grinstead in leafy West Sussex. This highly sociable community made the most of their stunning facilities with an impressive buffet lunch hosted in the clubhouse before adjourning to the stunning mature grounds for drinks in the sun.
Our Thamesfield residents don’t do anything by halves so when they announced they’d be putting on a ‘Champagne by the Thames’ event over the summer we were scrambling for an invite! Alongside a spectacular view and a spectacularly full bucket of fizz, the residents also enjoyed a delicious BBQ and some long-awaited time together.
Moat Park
What better way to stomp back into reality than to, literally, stomp back into it! Thankfully no one ran too late for the Alice In Wonderland themed afternoon tea party at Moat Park in Great Dunmow, Essex. Residents and guests enjoyed a spectacular fare of sandwiches and cakes in the elaborately decorated Club House and even got to have a ‘proper ol’ knees up’ with the troupe of Morris Dancers who can along to entertain the crowds.
Debden Grange
The team at Debden sure know how to throw a party and their summer celebration was a great event, well attended by its residents and their families. With live music, free-flowing bubbly and even a photo wall, it was nice for residents to come together to create memories once more.
Cedars Village
Last but not least, down at Cedars the stunning conservatory was decked out ready for their summer celebration. With food and wine a plenty the residents enjoyed catching up with each other and the team there, and some even snuck in an ice cream from the ice cream van!
Our residents and village teams’ enthusiasm and determination to host their own unique freedom parties is a testament to the thriving sense of community each RVG village is founded upon. Our residents join our communities to make the most of their retirement years and celebrations with their neighbours and friends, such as the ones highlighted above, are the best way to enjoy your spare time. It’s wonderful to see our communities coming back to life as residents feel comfortable to come together with each other and their families in this space once again.
