The Queen’s Green Canopy is an initiative set up to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year. The aim is to provide a lasting legacy in honor of her leadership and something for future generations to enjoy.
The community at Debden choose to plant the tree in the clubhouse area of the village. This point is central to many village activities, so it was felt the spot was ideal for residents to get the most enjoyment of it in the future. The cherry blossom is a symbol of happiness and although the blossom season is short it’s a beautiful sign that Spring, warmer and happy days allowing you to get outside more are on the way.
The community got incredibly involved in the planting which took place in the morning sunshine, taking it in turns to pile soil into the hole and secure the tree in its spot. Afterwards the village enjoyed some refreshments back at the clubhouse.
Tom Lee, Village Manager, commented, “We were lucky on the morning as the sun came out for us and made the event such fun for everyone.”
